The Role
Given lots of freedom to decide what I thought needed doing and then carry it out. Participated in branch events which was fun, but some periods where I had little to do.
Lovely people who were happy to answer all my questions. Got on board with my ideas and treated me like part of the team from day 1.
Little structure, very up to me what I decided to do. But support available when I had questions.
Some periods where I struggled to keep myself busy.
Given some responsibility but also took responsibility myself for improving customer satisfaction in the branch.
Online training helped me learn about retail banking, gave me experience in a work environment. But didn't really learn any particular new skills to help me in the future.
The Company
Friendly atmosphere, very busy meaning I often helped out with little things.
Seemed like there was little guidance on exactly what they expected from me. Took a long time for my IT to be set up.
Induction weekend at the start and review day at the end with team-building activities. During the placement there was some mandatory online training.
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Very likely to be offered a second and potentially third placement, people on the scheme before have been offered jobs as a result
The Culture
London interns organised bowling, meeting up for drinks etc.Up to the interns to organise it though. On my last day my colleagues took me out for a drink and we had 2 leaving parties for managers who left. But that does depend on the branch you're in.
London is expensive, especially canary wharf
London nightlife is great
London interns organised social events for ourselves
