About You
I really enjoyed the First Year Insight Workshop. It gave an insight both into the work of the firm and the culture of the firm. In the evening, we were taken to the Shard and then for food and drinks at The Swan bar, which was a brilliant opportunity to chat to the graduate recruitment team as well as solicitors at the firm.
Everyone was very friendly and welcoming, and made time to talk to us about their experiences at the firm.
The Graduate Recruitment Team kept us informed of the plans and answered any questions.
The workshop helped me confirm that I would like to pursue a career in commercial law, and that I would like to apply to Herbert Smith Freehills in the future.
The Company
Everything was planned perfectly and the timetable was a perfect mix. One of my favourite sessions was the 'speed networking' which gave us the opportunity to talk to solicitors from different practice areas. I also enjoyed the chance to shadow a current trainee.
Everyone really enjoyed the experience, and the atmosphere was extremely positive.
They made a special effort to talk to each of us individually, and many of the sessions were beneficial in terms of skills.
The experience enabled us to understand life as a solicitor within the firm, particularly at trainee and associate level.
I feel like I fully understand the culture of the firm. It came across as friendly and supportive, but still ambitious and hard-working.
It confirmed that I would like to be a commercial solicitor in a city firm, and highlighted that there are differences between the firms in terms of culture which I need to consider before I apply.
Everything Else
They reimbursed our travel expenses and provided us with rooms at a hotel in Covent Garden, if required. They also provided breakfast and lunch.
There were many opportunities to network with both other participants and employees of the firm. Opportunities included networking lunches, speed networking, and the social trip to the Shard and the Swan bar.
The networking and social events were really fun. They enabled us to talk to employees more informally and find out everything we wanted to know about the firm.
Yes, they have sports clubs, language classes and other social activities.
I am recommending it to students in the year below.
