    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Fantastic environment - very chilled, but everyone is very intelligent, competent and professional.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Cannot believe how close the team are, I'll miss them and I'm sure they'll miss me!

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There was never a moment when I didn't think I could contact someone. Whether it was my manager, director, VP or even someone form the USA and across Europe and Asia, every one was happy to take the time to review something. A truly unique quality which Amex treasures.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Hours were fantastic, a very loose structured 9-5, during which I was worked constantly but not tirelessly. There was never 'nothing' to do and very rarely did I feel swamped. The good thing is you are not assigned 'Internship tasks", rather you are fulfilling in a role in the business, therefore you feel you need to get the job done for the good of the company!

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Straight away I was involved in front line work with immediate effects and consequences on the business. Within a few weeks I was offered to lead a presentation to our major partners, this responsibility was huge and the experience one of a kind.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • In terms of communication skills and understanding of a business, the skills and training I learnt were invaluable. It might have helped in my degree studies in terms of organisation, but I can't really compare the two!

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Really young, engaging team. Very relaxed, every one is extremely friendly and conversational - never a dull day.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There were three interns on my program in my department. We all had different roles in different sectors of the department with different responsibilities. The set up is fantastic because we were each given clear responsibilities from the start - zero busy work for other people, just individual and collaborative work which genuinely affects the business.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was a two day induction at the start which was very thorough and focussed, but also provided insight into all areas of the business which you might not ever be involved in - however this gives you an understanding of the components of Amex. The training was fun and since then the company has made clear that any additional development I need can be offered.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There is huge opportunity because this is an exciting time of accelerated growth for the company. Career prospects seem huge at Amex at the moment, with a place in the Grad Scheme or a permanent placement seemingly a formality in terms of my next steps.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • YES! Had some great nights out, lunches and events - really enjoyable. The people are just like you so it's easy to get on from the start.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I live in London so I lived at home during the Internship -- not paying rent was definitely ideal. However it is of course quite expensive to live in London (rent or not) so from that perspective it was quite tough. Spent £200 a month travelling...

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It's London! Tonnes to do every night - no shortage!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • So much opportunity. I took part in networking events, corporate sports events, presentations, exhibitions...
