About You
I loved the working environment and the people that I worked with. Everyone made an effort to make me feel welcome and most people had a great sense of humour. Interesting work and excellent social events.
People seemed genuinely interested to have new faces in the office and work seemed to be a good representation of real trainee work. Work was interesting and I had varying levels of responsibility from drafting notes to clients to doing pieces of research for my supervisor.
There were lots of seminars and talks that helped me better understand the firm and its practice areas or general legal/business issues. In the workplace my supervisor answered any questions that I had and took the time to explain work to me.
A lot of emphasis on interpersonal and organisational skills in the office, as well as bespoke skills such as mediating, which helped me to actually enjoy the office environment.
The Company
Well structured programme of social events, work, and talks/seminars, although could have done with more uninterrupted time in each department.
The office environment was excellent and the other internees were friendly. The social events were good fun.
Excellent programme of development/training events. Along with social events I really felt that the firm was investing in me.
The actual work that I was given was a good representation of trainee tasks but I left every day at 5.30pm and was not pushed to the same extent that a trainee would.
Excellent insight into the firm's culture. The firm says that it wants to be the number one law firm globally and it really means it; people at the firm are very understanding of the firm's strengths and weaknesses and the general impression is that everything is being done to continue the firm's improvement.
I was already fairly decided on a career in commercial law but never really thought about going to the Magic Circle. This scheme really helped me decide that I do want to work at Linklaters.
Everything Else
The firm actually pays more than the £300 per week advertised, which is obviously nice.
Lots of opportunity to talk to various partners and associates in the office or at social events. Most people were very approachable.
As said already, the networking and social event opportunities were great, all of the partners, associates and trainees are really approachable. A lot of them will come to say hi to you and make an effort to have a conversation with you.
I was able to play a match as part of the Linklaters football team and I know there were a lot of other opportunities advertised to get involved.
Excellent vacation scheme, completely changed my opinion of the Magic Circle firms and has really encouraged me to apply for the training contract.
