The Role
Really enjoyed the 6 weeks. It was a really good insight into the office environment and the work of an actuary.
Really valued by all colleagues in the office. Every one was extremely welcoming and treated me as one of the team.
Basic training was provided throughout the first 2 weeks of the internship. I had several meetings throughout the time with my with my supervisor in which I could raise any issues.
The work load was quite variable depending on the day. Sometimes I would have lots of work to do, however other times I have very little. We also had other projects to do such as a technical presentation which was good to keep busy.
As much responsibility that can be expected on an internship. I was given work at the level that I could do.
Gained skills in presenting, team work and working in a professional environment which will be useful whatever career path I decide upon. The training provided on retirement was really useful and learnt a lot about finance in general.
The Company
Really friendly and inclusive atmosphere. The office was open plan and whilst people worked hard there were also breaks throughout the day.
Well organised overall. Training was provided and there was work to do. There were also other projects such as a technical presentation and an intern project to do.
I feel they invested quite a lot into the interns and developing our skill set. For example with the intern project and presentation.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Haven't found out yet- however from past years it seems that it is quite likely.
The Culture
Socialised with the other interns regularly and also colleagues.
Quite expensive as it is so close to London!
Lots of pubs in the town however there was only one nightclub!
Always invited events going on after work, such as sports and drinks.
