The Role
The team in London were really friendly and fun and there were a lot of intern events put on for us
You were accepted as part of the team, but you were always seen as an intern.
My line manager was brilliant at making sure I made and achieved targets I set so that I really made the most of my internship.
Only a few times did I have little actuarial work to do but there were always personal projects I could get on with. Best thing to do is make sure the team know you would like more work
I was given my own projects which was great but mostly it was just little bits everywhere
There was a brilliant presentational course at bradenham and they really made an effort to give you experience in all four actuarial areas which has really driven me towards an actuarial career
The Company
Friendly. It was a really big office (Finsbury square) and so considering, I think everyone came across very approachable, however there's no way everyone could know everyone.
Really well organised, everyone seemed to know what was going on and when and there was regular contact with HR to let us know the next steps.
The course at bradenham was brilliant.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Overall Grant Thornton employ most of their interns. The actuarial team however aren't brilliant at employing interns that were actuarial interns, they tend to employ interns from other line (tax, audit). This is not to say that if you intern in the actuarial team you won't get a job offer- out of 4 of us 1 still got a job offer.
The Culture
There were a lot of social events but as most of the interns were in the euston office there wasn't a great social scene at work outside of the events put on for us.
London is ridiculously expensive! We went out for a lot of team lunches which were all paid for by GT and if we went for after work drinks mangers or people higher than you usually bought so its not an issue unless you are just with other interns.
There's a good amount of nightlife, it's London, but I never saw any of it as I didn't look.
There was a corporate responsibility day which gt sent all interns across the country to Birmingham to volunteer in a school. Otherwise, not a lot for interns.
