  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The people were so helpful and the work was very interesting; will be great to see what other teams have to offer.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone was really welcoming, made some good friends. I felt appreciated by Senior Management too.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I sat next to my boss and she was always happy to help. As were the other members of Senior Management.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Much busier than previous internships, you can always ask for more work too. Very clear plan laid out for me so that I didn't get bored.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A software contract was closed because of a project I did to show it wasn't being used and I began to set-up a new software platform to replace it. I felt like they really valued my input and opinion.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Time management and communication were big lessons learned. Definitely built up my confidence to get things done too.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • A client servicing team so lots of people on the phone. People all get on well, but not much outside of work interaction unless specifically planned. People do have lots of little jokes going on though which keeps everything entertaining.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My log-ins were ready the day I arrive and I had a timetable of plans for the whole placement from my team and from HR. Sometimes overviews organised for the program were cancelled but these were later rescheduled.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I had a huge number of overviews and encouraged to meet with as many people as possible to learn as much as possible. Networking skills were definitely pushed, and lots of business related advice was given in terms of how to dress, behave etc.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They are still in the process of working out the best way to go about job offers; but they show a lot of interest in getting you interviews, and making people aware of who you are. Job offers definitely more likely if you were to go back into the same team.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Hard to organise with such a big group - but corporate events were a lot of fun. And individually organised things were also very good. Sociability varied amongst everyone so always someone to go to when organising an event.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is obviously expensive. Travel, bars, meals, everything is more expensive. But happy hours are a great help! And you can afford to spend a little more when you're earning. Nonetheless, people still socialised as much as we would have at Uni!

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Lots of bars in the area, also close to Shoreditch and Covent Garden. Can't ask for much more when you are working in London.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • It depends how much you want to get involved - but there is a social committee and sports clubs. You can also organise anything yourself. Some teams gave budgets for their interns to organise an event. The softball tournament is great fun, as is the CSR day on the farm and the 5.6k Corporate Challenge.
