The Role
I was fortunate to undertake a variety of work in the office as well as get to do work on-site.
Everyone in the office was very welcoming and approachable. I felt I was involved in team meetings and given the opportunity to add my own input.
Management and supervisors were always very interested to hear the details about what work I was doing. They were also very willing to share their own experiences and pass on advice about working in the industry.
Generally I was busy during the day. It did sometimes fluctuate as other people were busy and couldn't allocate work but this wasn't for any length of time. Resource meetings every week were great to ensure that I had enough work.
There was definite a step up in responsibility from my first internship at Mott MacDonald. I got to complete different types of work which I hadn't experienced before, either at university or during my first internship. It also meant I was more involved in terms of work flow and the review and checking process of work.
The internship was very beneficial. It gave me a greater insight as to what is required and looked for when completing work and how it should be presented. The internship also allowed me to research and use resources and products which are vital to complete work. Additionally, working on-site was fun and something different from working in the office.
The Company
Very pleasant and friendly atmosphere. I felt I was able to engage with colleagues whether it was about work or other things.
The work placement was well organised. There was a plan in place for compulsory learning courses to familiarise me with the office procedures and background information. This then filtered into doing actual work with a specific team with work being set from weekly resource meetings.
I feel very fortunate to have been able to undertake an internship at Mott MacDonald. Everyone in the office was keen to hear about my own background, what work I was doing at the time and also if I needed anything. They also encouraged me and tried to get me involved in different projects/work I may not have experienced before.
I have really enjoyed my two internships at Mott MacDonald and if given the opportunity, they are a company I would like to work with in the future.
The Culture
Generally, at the end of every week some of the office went out together.
Not overly expensive.
The nightlife is very good although I didn't partake of it with other colleagues or people from the office.
There are extra activities to be involved in such as the 11 aside and 5 aside football teams.
