The Role
You learn a lot, but it is self taught, as part of your tasks.
You are part of a small team. That team will often have requested an intern due to short staff, so yes, you are giving a real contribution to the team.
I have only put 5 stars. This is not because it was poor guidance. It is more becasue it is your job to figure out what to do. You are given short and long term tasks, and it is up to you to figure out what to do - that is how you learn.
It varies, you always have a long term project to work on, so that can be kept for down time. Your team will give you more short term project. Also, since the itnernship is over H1 results, that period is very busy.
I would say it depends on whether your team thinks you can handle it, and is increased gradually. But, they generally want to see if you can become a permanent graduate, so need to throw things at you.
i have finished education. However, I would say the working ethic you get is very valuable. In terms of the actual knowledge, will depend on degree subject.
The Company
Research tends to be quieter than the trading floor. But some prefer it that way, It is a lot of fun, and the staff are excellent, but very focused.
All very well organised and communicated. Lots of events.
There were some training events at the start, but generally it is self taught on the job. If your maanger needs something doing and you dont know how to do it, you will learn pretty quickly :-).
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
They are probably the best equities house in EMEA, so yes, pretty appealing.
The Culture
Very good scene, but work comes first always.
It is London. But you do get paid well for your work
It is London, lots of places to go.
