The Role
A great first experience into working life. Each day brought new challenges, and although the beginning was daunting, I got accustomed quite quickly, and the tasks got more demanding and complex as I learnt more, so I was tested throughout the 2 months. The financial knowledge that I have gained has been invaluable.
Being split between 2 teams I got to get a feel of working with different people and in different team dynamics. This being the case, there are some colleagues who I feel really valued my contribution and made the most of the fact that I was willing to learn a lot of new things. Others who I did not work with directly were either pleasant or chose to ignore me completely even though I saw them every day.
I was given good advice, both when I asked for it and when they saw that I could do something to improve my experience
It fluctuated as I was split between 3 teams at some points, so it depended on how much work they needed me to do. I was never not busy - always something to do, into the early hours of the morning
As I progressed I got less guidance with my work, however as I was learning the basics along the way I was never working on my own
The skills I gained are highly transferable and really useful even just for myself - financial knowledge, IT skills and personal development
The Company
It varied depending on the teams, however it is generally a calm atmosphere where people stop to chat occasionally. Nothing intense, and not dull
Great coordination in terms of getting the students trained and prepared to begin with. We were segregated from interns in other areas which was a shame, and any experience we may have wanted to gain in other areas had to be organised by ourselves
After the initial training, the rest of the development was a function of my inquisitiveness and willingness to learn and the team's willingness and time to show/teach me how something worked
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare from home
I would love to get a job
The Culture
Was great with other interns, but amongst colleagues it was poor
Pricey but we have a salary
Great, but didn't get to go out much at all
Not really. Average work hours were 9am - 11pm, with some nights going into 2am, so there was not much of a chance to do much else
