The Role
The role was quite varied, sometimes I wouldn't have much to do but othertimes I'd be really busy which was good. The people were all really nice and I socialised with the interns lots, the people in my office invited me to their nights out and occassional office lunches.
The people that I worked with were very nice. I was given my own project which I ran and then once I'd collected my data I held phone conferences with up to 8 other colleagues where I told them what it is that I'd been doing and asked for their feedback, everyone was receptive.
If I wasn't sure what I was suppose to be doing my manager would always stop what she was doing to answer my questions.
At the beginning of the internship I wished that I had more to do, but at the end of the internship I had picked up a few different tasks beside my project that kept me nice and busy which is definately best!
A lot but was given help when neccessary.
I did the internship straight after graduation which a fair few other interns did. I had to do a presentation which was quite a key point in the internship for week 8. I spoke to lots of different people and had lots of business development. I learnt lots of things about the way a bank operates and wasn't expected to come with much knowledge which is good as I am not from a financial background.
The Company
Everyone chatted about outside work hobbies and was a pleasant atmosphere, people were willing to have a laugh.
This year there were 130 interns so HR was very used to the procedures and we had 3 organised social events, the first one in the first week was at the OXO tower.
I felt like they cared that I was having a good time and learning new things. I took the opportunity whilst here to shadow in different areas in Operations and everyone was more than willing to let me come over to their office and sit with them for an hour or so.
Company Parties/Events
Everyone is friendly and although I haven't been to any other banks I would now always choose UBS over an other.
The Culture
Every lunchtime all 19 interns in Operations would sit outside and eat our lunch together, each Thursday someone would arrange post work drinks and at the weekends and Friday nights they'd always be at least one invite to do something with the others.
It's London, its very expensive!
There's a nice square that people went for drinks in, but when the interns and I went to a club it cost £20 and was rubbish and we haven't been out since! Plenty of places for a £6 post work drink though!
Operations interns took part in a volunteering sports day looking after kids from poor primary schools in the local community, it was really fun and I got to meet lots of new people from UBS.
