The Role
Stimulating work for the most partthrhrhwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Was made to feel very welcome and my work was always taken seriously
Manager always gave good, constructive criticism.
In general I was left to complete work at my own pace
Project had tangible impact and is something that won't go to waste, but at the same time wasn't essential to day to day workings. I was allowed a lot of scope and directional input
Invaluable development experience
The Company
People were talkative and friendly, if you had any questions then they were happy to help and if you wanted information on what they did on a day to day basis then that could be given. In general it was a good atmosphere to be working in.
The internship was set up very well, with a welcome week to ease you in. This comprised a series of lectures on investment banking and the business as a whole in order to give you a good idea of what they do and in what markets they operate. After this first week, you were put straight onto a working desk
I think the company invested very well, they provided access to a number of training courses as well as free premium subscriptions to resources such as newspapers & programs. Any software required or training is given when asked and there is plenty of opportunity to gain new skills and take part in courses.
If performance is good, interns will be accepted onto the graduate scheme. As far as I am aware there is a space for every intern within tech on the graduate scheme so it is purely a matter of whether you meet the requirements or not. You aren't competing with other interns for spaces.
The Culture
People were always up for going to bars and were willing to socialise both outside and inside of work. Organised social events helped to increase the social scene as well
It's London, it's not going to be the cheapest. I have lived here for the past 4 years as it is where I attend university and it's true that the rent is substantially more expensive than elsewhere in the UK. However, I do believe it's worth the price to be able to live in the capital and the cost of food etc isn't considerably more than other areas.
Nightlife in London is amazing, always things to see and do. The office is at Liverpool street, which is at the heart of the square mile. There are plenty of bars and clubs in the area and it's 15 minutes bus ride from Shoreditch
Plenty of opportunities to socialise with fellow interns at bars outside of work, social events were also organised by UBS 3 times throughout the internship. Interns also organised events through facebook and there is a FB page for all interns throughout london, which organises events
