The Role
Overall, it was agood placement. The manager who I was assigned to just joined Tesco so I was left in the dark to begin with. But as it went on I got more involved and it steadily improved.
My opinion was always valued around the project I was assigned to. Work was given to me very reguarly with people asking questions directed at me, making me feel more empowered.
I sat next to my project manager so I always felt I could ask questions no matter how stupid. The overall company culture supports this and people understand I am here to learn.
Some days were a drag and some were intense. On average I was always doing something. It was not always set to my skills but I was kept busy most of the time.
I was placed in a project to help prove why Tesco needed a piece of analytical software and help tailor it to Tesco's requirements. For Tesco direct I identified important reasons why we were behind amazon. Overall, this was a high level of repsonsilibity as the efficiency of tesco direct rested on my department and my team
General skills such as collaboration, presenting and team working were developed further. New skils such as using new software, liasing with stakeholders and producing technical documents were devleoped rapidly in my short ten weeks.
The Company
A reasnably quiet area of the office but everyone was really approchable and friendly
We were assigned a project, a pass, a laptop and a desk. Everything was in place that youd expect.
There was no formal training so I had to read documents and learn on the job. However, they did run presentation and various other mor elife-skill based days.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
If I perfomed well enough I am granted a graduate job.
The Culture
Its a nice culture. Peoplee go out for drinks after work and have meals. The other interns are usually organising something.
I lived at home so cannot really judge however i believe tesco did help other interns with housing
Welwyn was pretty quiet, but london was only half hour away
There was an IT sports day, weekly sport meet ups and intern games weekly. A good mixture
