The Role
I was placed in the British Gas Pricing team in an analyst role, the work was varied and challenging. We were given free accomodation just 5 minutes drive from where I was working. This gave the internship a strong social element.
I really enjoyed working with every member of the team, the work had a strong collaborative nature, meaning I got to know everyone very well.
I set clear goals and areas for development at the beginning of my placement with my manager. He would meet with me on a regular basis to dicuss at what stage I was at in achieving these targets. I was given regular feedback. My manager supported me in trying to learn as much about the industry as possible over the 10 weeks by helping me set up meetings with people.
At the beginning, for around the first week, I was mostly trying to learn things, so didn't have alot to do. However later on in the placement my workload struck a good balance. I could leave work most days by around 5:30, which left me with time to do things in the evenings.
I was given my own project and could set out how I wanted to approach it, and broadly what I wanted to focus on.
I have learnt some brilliant skills and had an incredible experience of a big company.
The Company
Relaxed yet focussed atmosphere, my team worked long hours but would have time to stop and chat during the day.
Very well organised when I was accepted onto the scheme with regards to payment, accomodation and all other general admin concerns. Only point at which I felt was strange was I was only offered my telephone interview and assessment day after sending emails to people to enquire after my progress.
I think more investment could have been made by organising networking events for the interns. However I feel my team invested alot of time into my personal development.

I am still waiting to hear, but everyone who is good enough seems to be given a job.
The Culture
There was a brilliant social scene with the other placement students, as I was based down south with around 50 others, we all lived together and had regular pub trips/football games etc.
It is reasonably close to london so pubs are expensive, to get to the nearest night out requires a taxi journey.
£15-£20 taxi journey to Windsor, not great clubs but fun as we were a large group
We were encouraged to take part in a 'charity challenge' and come up with a fundraising idea, this resulted in pub quizzes, football tournaments, barbecues being organised.
