The Role
The overall experience was extremely positive, the business unit I was placed in was at the forefront of BG's operations and it was a fantastic opportunity to get a view into what an organisation such as BG is like.
From day one I was reminded how the work I was doing was of great importance to the team and how discussions with other parts of the business would progress. I was regularly included in meetings with members of the senior leadership team and often called upon by members of my team and members of the wider operations team for my knowledge and expertise.
Prior to the start of the placement I was contacted by my line manager concerning the role that I was about to undertake. Throughout the placement I was in regular contact with my line manager who provided me with valuable feedback and insight on what I was doing. I was also assigned a buddy who was a current graduate.
Due to the freedom I was given there were often times when I was required to work around other people's schedules, which meant certain days were busier than others due to the nature of the business. There were no long periods of down time because there were always opportunities to pursue additional tasks or shadowing opportunities.
As part of the objectives I was given on day one of my placement I was asked to take responsibility for multiple projects which required me to manage my stakeholders effectively and I was expected to produce a high quality piece of work.

The Company
The office itself was part of a wider contact centre meaning there was a lot of noise. This did not mean that it was hard to work in but it did mean that when it was particulalry busy it could get very hectic.
The grad team were particularly well organised, everything was well communicated and we were given specific dates from the outset about important events in the calendar. They were also very good at communicating changes in schedules or additional information when necessary.
The company invests heavily in individuals and are more than happy to give you additional opportunities should to exercise an interest in pursuing them.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
The organisation itself is very good at selling itself as a place where you would like to work, having had the experience of working with them I can honestly say that this is because it is a very good environment to work in. The people are extremely friendly and there are an unlimited amount of opportunities to pursue with regards to career progressions or just general interest.
The Culture
Depends heavily on where you are placed, some offices are a lot bigger than others and therefore have more students placed there.
The cost of living was average.
I was placed in Leeds and there was a large student scene.
There were plenty of opportunities to get involved in, for example sports and volunteering.
