    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement largely due to the people I worked with, and also the range of tasks I became involved in. Although primarily office based, site visits allowed me to get out of the office and see the branches which was useful to fully understand what SIG do.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt that I made a meaningful contribution and that the work I did will still be used and valued after I have gone. Positive feedback from colleagues made me fee appreciated. I also got on with colleagues on a more personal level and they made an effort to fully integrate me in to the team.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager and supervisor quickly identified what I wanted to get out of the placement for myself and tailored my projects in order that I could get the broadest experience possible. they understood my position and career goals having been there themselves, and were happy to help. I cannot fault the support they gave me.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I always had a project which I could be getting on with which meant that I was never doing nothing. These baseline projects were interspersed with days on site, with landlords or agents, and with meetings. I never felt overwhelmed by the workload either.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was responsible for ensuring that all the lease information for over 300 properties was fully accurate. This task was too large for anybody to quickly double check so I had to ensure that I got it right. This information is now the database which serves the property department.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have now landed my dream job as a direct result of this placement and I have made valuable connections within the industry.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very laid back atmosphere. The converted chapel building makes for a unique open plan office environment.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • As soon as I arrived I was introduced to the whole office and given a folder with a timetable of my 8 weeks which was highly organised. This made me relax into my placement from the start, and I did not feel like I was an inconvenience to anybody. HR also stayed in regular contact in case of any problems (of which there were none), so I never felt isolated or abandoned.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The company is changing and growing which makes future employment prospects exciting. HR were dedicated and enthusiastic to help which would make me confident that I would be fully supported in a graduate role.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I met up with other placement students most days for lunch.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was fortunate enough to live at home during my placement and so there were no additional living costs for me personally. Sheffield has 2 universities and therefore many students so the nightlife is well established and not overly expensive.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Good nightlife if you know where to go.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Nothing formally in place from a corporate perspective but there were some informal opportunities among colleagues on a friendly level.

    4/5
