The Role
I have worked on pevious internships and in various full time jobs, but nothing has come close to this experience. The job is very rewarding; you are never worked too hard and on top of it all you are paid good money! Indeed, if you need to work overtime, you are paid by the hour. It's an excellent way to see for yourself if a career in Banking and more specifically at Lloyds is for you. The vast majority of interns, upon completing their internship, will receive an offer to transfer straight onto the grad scheme once their final year of Uni is complete. So if you enjoy the job, you can go back to Uni knowing you have a position set up for you on one of the best graduate schemes.
You really do feel like one of the team. In fact most people that you deal with whilst on the internship will never even know you are an intern!
My line manager lets me get on with my work, but she is always there whenever I am unsure. Your managers will support you with everything! Even things beyond your immediate work. They really do want to develope you and give you the best experience possible.
The more work you put in and the harder you work the more work you end up responsible for. I normally work 1 hours over time a day, as I have a high workload, but that workload is one that I agreed to take on. Plus I get paid for every bit of overtime.
I was given a great deal of responsibility. After the first 3 weeks my manager decided to challenge me by moving me to a different department and into a role that was very demanding. The department was under resourced so I found myself planning and delivering large projects. Indeed, one of my projects will affect every single branch across the group in the UK. I never expected to be in a position where if I didn't turn up to work, an important project simply wouldn't happen. You really are empowered to deliver important pieces of work, but most importantly you know that for guidance you need only ask.
Your communication skills are greatly expanded, as you have to interact with often senior members of the business.
The Company
Great atmosphere. But it's not like everyone is running around having fun; it's a business after all. You work hard like everyone else, but that doesnt mean the office isn't social.
I didn't have a single problem with anything. They were fantastic and getting everything ready for you. I walked into work on my first day and on my desk was a name card, my own laptop and my own phone details.
I was sent to accompany managers in senior meetings. I ran conference calls and meetings. I was sent out to local directors offices to experience frontline customer work for a day. My manager arranged meetings for me with senior managers from all over different parts of the business so I could get an insight into so many different areas. You also complete online webinars and live-meet training sessions now and then in topics like Risk, finance and personal development.

The Culture
Lots of social events are going on for interns. Quite often interns go out after work and have a few drinks somewhere.
Well at the end of the day, it is London!
London!
London! Lots of activities planned for interns and plenty of chances to meet new people.
