The Role
Some aspects of the work were very engaging and I learned a lot about banking from it. However at times I did end up doing some very menial tasks as my office could be busy and no one had time to run me through the more complex stuff.
I really liked the people I worked with, but at times it seemed as if they saw finding work for me to do as just another task.
When I did get feedback it was well balanced and objective. All feedback I recieved really helped me.
There were definitely times when I had to go search hard for work to do. Could be quite frustrating at times.
Some of the tasks I was given were quite complex excel tasks which very few people in the office could complete. It ended up that some of my work was very useful across the region.
Even the most boring tasks gave me some useful experience, I have learned plenty for my future career, such as being very confident on excel and about good organised filing.
The Company
Due to some unforseen circumstances before I arrived the office ws short staffed for the summer and as such the people in it were under a lot of pressure.
I was not placed in London, and at times it seemed a bit confused and as though there was little support from any main offices in London.
My office were fantastic and did everything they could to help me considering the tough circumstances they were under. However I felt as though there was no support or guidance from the emerging talent team. The programme seemed very London centric, and I think I just got lucky to be placed with such a great office.
The placement led very easily into the Grad scheme.
The Culture
As a small office there were only a few social events, but they were very enjoyable and I felt very included.
As I was outside London and living in my student accomodation it was very cheap to live.
The nightlife was great, especially at weekends!
There were some opportunities to do charity events and go see football, rugby etc.
