The Role
the placement was challenging in a good way, i have learned a lot but i am not sure that this is the industry that i want to work in
the colleagues that i have got to know have been brilliant, the only reason i have given this rating is as my placement was over the summer a lot of people i work with were on holiday and many of them work flexibly so there werent many people in the office.
as previously stated like many of my colleagues and my line manager works flexibly so was not in the office much and was quite hard to contact, however the support i did get was brilliant and i felt they took a genuine interest in my devleopment and the work i was doing.
i felt that either i was overloaded with work or that i was having to ask for more taks as i had nothing to do, which was difficult with people out of office.
i know that the work i have done is useful and appreciated by my team, and that i have needed to get things finished and handed over properly which feels like a good amount of responsibility
all of the skills that i have learnt here are increadibly useful, even if i do not choose to go on to the graduate scheme i am so pleased that i have done this placement and the skills i have learnt and the confidence i have gained are priceless
The Company
i think this was mainly due to the fact that there are only a few people in the office, sometimes we would have a short chat and there is one colleague who i get on well with and have good fun with but i think that it would have perhaps had a more enjoyable time if there had been a better atmosphere but it did help me to focus on my work and be very productive.
my IT was set up quickly and easily but i feel that the scheme of work could have been better orgainsed and that it would have perhaps been better to have a line manager who worked in office (this is not a reflection of my line manager directly as we get on really well and she is very supportive and lovely!) i ahve also felt at times that if my placement was better organised i could have been more productive
as a Lloyds scholar i have recieved so much support and guidance in my personal development and i am very happy whith the time and effort they put into helping me as an individual, it is especially nice to have a mentor who genuinly cares about my development and is a good support both personally and in terms of work and career
National Travel
even though i am returning next year and i think that it is really great experience i am pretty sure that i would like to go into teaching primary school, however it has been really confidance building to have the oppotunity to work in an organisation like this and to see that i can do it!
The Culture
i have made great friends here and its good to have a support network of other interns that you can go to with any problems or laugh with over things, we did struggle with the charity challenge project that we have done but in the end we pulled together and raised almost £900 for charity.
bristol is fairly cheap and my rent was subserdised as i am a scholar so i was able to save money!
i dont really like going out to clubs but there are some great bars and as i have friends in bristol and i live here in term time i know some nice places to go.
as i live in bristol anyway i am involved in charity work and i do yoga and dance classes that i have continued over the summer
