The Role
I loved working at J.P. Morgan. The internship was well organised without being too structured, allowing interns to be independent. I worked hard during my time with the company and really feel like I contributed to both my team and the business as a whole.
My colleagues were very welcome and I felt like a valued member of the team from the off. The culture and the people are one of favourite things about J.P. Morgan.
Colleagues on every level were very accessible and happy to answer any questions. My direct manager invested himself in making my internship as educational and enjoyable as possible and made time to have weekly catch up meetings.
As with any new role the first few weeks were a little slow. But with plenty of online traininng, other resources and work shadowing opportunities available, I managed to keep myself busy. Once I was trained up I became a good level of busy and remained so throught my internship.
I was treated like a member of the team from the off and was given responsibility as such.
The content of my internship won't benefit my studies, but will certainly benefit me once I begin full-time employment. The general business skills I further developed through my role will help me across the board.
The Company
There was a good atmosphere in my office. I feel like my team struck the right balance between fun and serious attitudes.
Before the internship I feel like we were sent unnecessarily many emails. What we needed to do before starting could have been summed up into less emails in order to make the onboarding process slightly simpler. My manager was changed just a couple of days before I started work and so I didn't have any contact before my first day, however this was not the norm. During the internship events were well organised with weekly emails and email calendar invites.
The internship work itself obviously provided training and development. As well as this events were organised that provided interns to learn from senior leaders and develop their networking skills. There was also plenty of online training available, with facility to organise your own training plan that corresponded to your particular role.

Some interns are offered a graduate position after their internship. I will find out in the coming weeks.
The Culture
The internship programme at J.P. Morgan is very large and so there were many interns. A large group of us became good friends and we organised nights out and meals together.
I worked in London, where obviously the cost of living is very high.
The Nightlife in London is incredible, but expensive.
Several networking events were offered to interns and J.P. Morgan also has sports teams.
