The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my internship with Tesco. What is amazing about Tesco is how supportive and how genuinely nice people who work there are and really take an interest in your future career. Also, the social side is fantastic and I have made some amazing friends over the last 2 months.
I felt incredibly valued by my colleagues and felt, although I was a low level, we were all treated equally and I had very strong meetings with my managers through our daily meetings. The scale here measures it 'like family' I feel is the wrong term; we had friendly professional relationships.
I had a huge amount of support from my manager when I needed it. Because the internship is in the summer, this meant my manager was taking holidays, but I was always given a temporary manager and also I had a buddy to help me with my project.
My project was being an international project manager so I was incredibly busy at times, which did get a bit stressful, but overall I had a good working balance.
I had a lot of responsibility; I was responsible for chairing daily conference calls and organizing supplier meetings. I was working with a lot of very important people, which was exciting and offered me really good networking opportunities.
The skills I have developed at Tesco are this set of transferrable skills, which are essential in life- regardless of the degree or job. I have definitely become a better communicator and have a lot more confidence in my presentation skills now. We had development days which would target these key skills, so they really are concerned with your personal development, whether that be inside of Tesco or not.
The Company
Pretty well organized once in department but the two weeks of training and store placement were quite disorganized.
Tesco invested a huge amount in us and invested in our personal development
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Waiting to hear if I get a graduate scheme with them!
The Culture
Very good social scene, so many other interns to meet,
Tesco's head office isn't great, but it's only 30mins from central London- so Cheshunt's prices are a bit more affordable but for rent you are still paying London prices
Many a night out in Covent Garden and Camden!
You're so close to London, so can get up to whatever you like....
