The Role
It was an awesome placement in Innovation where my ideas were valued and I had lots of opportunity to pursue projects that I found interesting that added value to the business.
Best boss ever! He was really interested in my developedment and actively helped me to plan work/experience during my internship to meet my goals.
My line manager was great! From the first day he was encouraging and did all that he could to make sure that I got the most out of my internship like helping me to design my work plan.
Most days it was just about perfect, although at one point I had said yes to one too many tasks. It worked out well though, because I just had a chat with my line manager in one of our weekly meetings and prioritised my work.
From the first day I was allowed to identify tasks in the team that needed to be done and to do them! This meant that I was responsible for work that had immediate value but could also make a long-term contribution to the team even though I was on a 10 week internship.
Very much! Doing a Computer Science degree, it was excellent to be able to apply the theory learnt in lecture to practical examples and deliver results that have business value.
The Company
The site that I was based at had a lot of contractors and one other internship student. I was definitely more isolated than students at other locations which made it difficult when trying to work together e.g. no opportunity for informal chats
Being the first internship student in that role there wasn't much structure but this was a blessing because it meant I could form my own work/development program for the 10 weeks and achieve more personalised goals
There were not any additional courses for interns available either to get to know more about the graduate application process or to learn a new skill. This would have been good.
Working from home
Would love to work in this department and this team! However, on applying for the graduate scheme I am aware that they run a rotation system with four placements in different positions for the 2 years
The Culture
This is probably because there weren't many students at my location.
It was very expensive being the centre of London and all!
