The Role
This was such a good experience. I got to do so much: product development, supplier meetings, factory visits etc.
My team made me feel very welcome, but I didn't have much responsibility.
I had about an hour contact time a week because the team was so busy. It would have been nice to have a bit more contact time with my manager.
Some days I was really busy. This was mainly driven by the project we had to complete. But other days I had nothing to do.
I wouldn't say I really had any responsibility but it was such a good experience and I have learned loads. Other interns had a lot more to do, so everyone had a completely different experience.
I think the skills I have learned from Tesco will stay with me for life. I am more confident now than I used to be, especially with meeting people in important positions. For example we had to give a presentation at the end of the internship to the category direction of beers and spirits.
The Company
Everyone is very driven at Tesco which creates a really nice vibe. But also the atmosphere is quite relaxed, which is really good.
The placement could have been organised better. On my store placement, the store didn't even know I was coming.
Tesco provided masterclasses and development days and are really focused on improving the skill sets of their employees.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Employment prospects at Tesco are fantastic. At the end of the internship there is the chance of a job offer if you have impressed them.
The Culture
As a group of 10 interns in UK Food, we all got on really well. All the interns would have lunch together and we even organised a night out.
The general cost of accomodation is between £80-£100.
Cheshunt is quite a peaceful area, but the train station is really close to Tesco and it only takes about 20-30 minutes to get into London.
There weren't really any oppotunities to do anything sports related, but interns met up all the time. There are also a lot of oppotunities to go out for meals with your team.
