The Role
very much enjoyed the internship, I interned in the regional office in Zurich/Switzerland in Corporate- and Investmentbanking, the internship started with a training week in London before I joined the regional office, which allowed me to experience both the financial hub London and Canary Wharf as well as the secretive, exclusive banking city of Zurich
from day one I was treated as an integral part of the team
I was working closely with a very senior person, moreover senior management would manage to discuss my questions
busy, even though it was summer and quiet according to my colleagues; I got good exposure to flow and episodic projects
after a couple of weeks I was trusted to lead and push forward an important project, as the responsible associate left for a couple of days training
I put quite a bit of my theoretical knowledge into practice and increase it further, however, I learned that implicit knowledge (i.e. how processes within the bank are working, the network one creates across different divisions) are even more important than most theory studied
The Company
team was very diverse in terms of backrounds and nationality, very young and enthusiastic
organization was very good, the training week as well as the actual internship in the regional office
again, the training week in London was a nice start and introduction, during the rest of the internship I further developed my understanding by going through learning materials or having discussions with colleagues
