The Role
Initially I really enjoyed it but as time went on I found myself getting quite bored. I was exposed to many different areas of the division I was working in which was fantastic experience, and it will undoubtedly help me in the future.
My team was fantastic and a lot of them made an effort to make sure that I had a good time. I was definitely valued as part of the team.
My line manager gave me lots of support and if I wanted help, there would always be somebody who was willing to step in.
Unfortunately I was extremely bored towards the end of my placement as the work dried up, and I spent many hours surfing the web to relieve my boredom. I asked for work and when I was given it, I often got it done much quicker than my colleagues expected me to. To be fair to them, there wasn't a lot that they could really give me, but several other interns had much more work than me and I was quite jealous of them.
I was able to get involved in a few important and interesting things which was fantastic, but a lot of my time was spent compiling spreadsheets which may or may not have been useful to the team, and basically admin stuff. I went to all the team meetings and was encouraged to make a contribution which was good.
My organisational and communication skills have really improved and I now feel that if I wanted a job in the division I worked in, I would be able to make a confident application.
The Company
Everyone was friendly and approachable, but I wouldn't say it was particularly fun, and we didn't really go out for drinks together after work. My team got on really well which was nice.
I didn't really encounter any kind of organisational problems, although the lack of work to do towards the end was maybe an issue.
We often had personal development webinars, and obviously in financial terms, we were paid quite well. We had regular 121s with our line managers and performance reviews to ensure that we were getting the most out of our internships.
Company Parties/Events
Providing you aren't terrible at your job, you are referred onto the graduate scheme at the end of your placement which is fantastic because it guarantees you a £30-£40k starting salary (including benefits) and the scheme is only 2 years so there's plenty of time to pursue a different career afterwards if you decide it's not for you.
The Culture
We often went to the pub together and we were encouraged to get involved in the Charity Challenge as teams, which was great because I met quite a few friends that way. Lloyds also organised an internship start and close event where we all met up for the day.
Newsflash: London is expensive! We were paid London Allowance though which was good.
It was okay, but I don't see why this would be an issue in London - I rarely went clubbing in the City but that's because there's a great tube service which takes you pretty much anywhere. There are some nice bars nearby.
I'm not sure what this questions mean - we had plenty of free time after work so we could organise things ourselves, although my colleagues didn't really organise any group activities. I was invited to watch Wimbledon with them.
