The Role
Really enjoyed it, and it far exceeded my expectations.
From the very beginning, we felt valuable to the firm as we were doing the same level of work as the grads were doing. All colleagues made it very clear that they appreciated the work we were doing.
Each intern is assigned a buddy who help and guides you throughout the summer. My buddy was great - really friendly and approachable and made me feel comfortable very quickly. We also had regular manager meetings to make sure we were coping well and being given sufficient work.
Did not have a single day where I did nothing. I was very busy most of the time, but never felt overwhelmed or pressurised to stay late to finish work.
We were treated exactly as a grad would be and were expected to do the same level of work. (apart from that we were not assigned particular clients)
The technical skills developed were very specific and so I don't think they will assist me in my degree. But the invaluable personal and general skills I developed will help me in my future studies, career and life.
The Company
Fairly quiet throughout the day, but everyone is very friendly and there are break-out areas where you can socialise.
Not a set programme of work, but we just fit into the office as if we were a grad. CSR project was well organised.
In the first week at the office, we had many training sessions - technical and general. These helped us become aware of the general standards and expectations around the office. Buddy spends a lot of time explaining work and helping with problems to make you understand in the long term.
Subsidised Canteen
Not yet sure if I will be given the offer - but would certainly accept if I did.
The Culture
Great social life - went for drink every Friday after work, regular team lunches etc When people pass exams there's a great celebratory atmosphere throughout the office.
Central London - expensive but as expected
Huge variety of pubs and bars
Lots of charity events and a few sports events.
