The Role
I was expecting a very scary corporate environment, but my placement ended up proving to be something different altogether. It was certainly corporate and serious, but I didn’t feel any stress or pressure, and everyone was really nice.
I felt quite valued by them, not indispensible, but quite valued, it was good.
My supervisor was excellent at giving guidance or asking others (who would be better) to give guidance; I never felt lost in my placement.
Some days I had almost too much to do where I was scared I wouldn’t meet my deadlines, and on other days I had next to nothing.
The work I was doing was quite important, and I was left to handle it solo so it was quite a responsibility.
Everything I’ve learnt, from the technical skills to working in an office environment will come in very handy I’m sure, I’m very grateful!
The Company
There was always time for a chat or a laugh, but at the same time everyone was very focused. It felt like an excellent balance. Everyone was certainly very nice.
There was no computer when I first arrived, so I literally couldn’t even start to learn what to do until a few days in, before then it was just reading massive procedures. Then I had barely nay work to do for a lot of it, and only got a fair amount at about half way through. But on the whole, my line manager was very organised and kept on top of actions we agreed on in meetings and such.
I think I had a lot of opportunities available to me. As a part of the Lloyds Scholars programme, I have even more so there is a lot of personal development. My line manager also helped my with professional personal development a lot as well
