The Role
It was great. My first internship so I don't have too much to compare it to but I really enjoyed my summer at UBS.
I only had four weeks with each team but within such a small amount of time, I really felt like I was trusted with the teams workload.
My managers were amazing, so helpful. Considering they are all so busy, I felt able to ask for help and questions were encouraged!
I did two rotations in two different areas of HR. During each rotation I was given two main tasks to complete as well as daily responsibilities/tasks as and when they would come to the team.
I was trusted with many responsibilities, communicating with many areas of the bank as well as external clients.
The skills I learnt over the summer will be so helpful. From being able to present in front of people and answer questions on the spot to communicating in a professional manner. I met so many people across the firm from other interns to managing directors and so this is something I will take from my internship.
The Company
Great, really relaxed but professional at the same time. Everyone got their work done but were still around for a catch up to talk to you about their role in the bank.
Really organised, I was given a list of projects and objectives at the start of each rotation. I also had many intern events throughout as well as three days of training at the beginning.
They had a lot of time for me; willing to answer any questions/concerns I had about what to choose career-wise. They also organised a number of sessions; for example a session on identifying your personal strengths and weaknesses.
Company Parties/Events
Great, the graduate scheme is really good. You rotate through different areas of HR throughout the 18-24 months so you have the opportunity to see where you really fit in.
The Culture
Wasn't the best in terms of getting together with other interns outside of the organised events by UBS. However, this may have been my own experience and because there are so few HR interns. I think this is something that will improve on the graduate scheme.
I go to university in London anyway so pretty used to it being expensive but not the cheapest area to go out in.
The nightlife is really good in London... I think it's hard to know where to go though if your not from the area.
A number of events organised throughout the internship scheme but also a couple of events organised within HR such as a charity event and a summer party. We also had the chance to go to a primary school and talk to them in their assembly.
