The Role
BlackRock really made the whole experience extremely enjoyable, great people, great culture and even as an intern I was addition to important decision making processes in the organisation.
Very valued everything I did was adding to the business as an example one project I was working on involved analysing what fund BlackRock should be looking at launching next and was used in the final decision making process.
Having a senior managing director as my line manager was fantastic, but unfortunately due to an operation and holiday they were not around at the start or the end of my internship. However they were sure to get another managing director or member of his team to ensure I was always given the guidance I needed.
There is a lot of work to get through, as you would expect, but there is also the ability unlike other jobs in finance to get out of the office at around 6 and enjoy your evenings with fellow interns or other friends.
A lot of responsibility from sales strategy planning, helping decide on the next project launch, communicating with new potential clients, client data overhaul and much more.
The skills learnt from the internship both in terms of core training and the skills you pick up on the job will set me up well for a full time job although are not necessarily applicable to university.
The Company
Fun place to work, everyone wants to speak to you, lively people!
Very well organised programme, and campus recruitment department, only thing I would have liked is to know who my line manager was before I arrived.
The company invested a lot in the training side of things with sessions from 7City and on presentation skills. While the lunch and learn sessions were also a fantastic way of learning more about the company from MD's from across the firm.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare from home
Feedback from line managers has been extremely positive, however I think campus recruitment are still awaiting headcount information. Final decisions are made in the month after your internship.
The Culture
Very good social scene.
It's London so it's not cheap, but BlackRock pays extremely well so it's perfectly manageable
Very good, lots to do and get in involved in.
Invited to play in client football games, client drinking nights and much more.
