The Role
There was a variety of work to become involved in with indirect client exposure from the first day.
The team I worked with were excellent and extremely welcoming.
There was a buddy and mentor process which really helps you to settle in and gives you a platform for questions.
There were occasions where client deliverables were to a tight timescale resulting in working outside of the typical 9-5 day or investment manager meetings which required you to dedicate time outside of work, but overall it was very well balanced, with the majority of the office leaving at 5 on a Friday.
I was given the opportunity to work on client reports at my own pace on my own accord which were then checked afterwards by other analysts.
I think it will help my financial mathematics degree a great deal.
The Company
It was a very hardworking office, but there was a generally young workforce making it good fun at the same time.
It was clear that the recruitment team had worked closely with the rest of the business to deliver an excellently structured internship.
There were a large variety of training sessions on the different areas of the business which gave you an overall picture of the rest of the company.
Sports and Social Club
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Would be extremely grateful and excited to be offered a role with Mercer.
The Culture
I was the only intern within my office but the rest of the workforce were relatively young and contributed to the social scene. We were also encouraged to meet with other interns in the north and to work from different offices for the day.
Relatively cheap in comparison to London offices, especially as it's a student city.
Leeds nightlife is great, but I had been there for three years as part of my degree already.
There were numerous occasions where investment management firms would offer to take the team for dinner/cricket/go karting. These were normally combined with other consultancy firms in the area and great fun.
