The Role
Felt really welcome as a team member, was given real responsibility and felt that i had made a real contribution
Welcomed me to the team and treated me like one of them
My supervisor was particularly good (as he was an intern not so long ago)
Some days there were plenty of tasks to do and some there was nothing. For the latter, you have to show initiative and seek out work or do courses etc to get the most out of your placement
I was given real tasks and I was responsible for delivering these on time. We had weekly progress meetings in which i would have to present my progress to a senior stakeholder
Learnt a lot about the office environment, working within and outside my department. Didn't learn a lot about the technical side but I learnt a load about the business and working for a large company. It was great preparation for the 'real world'
The Company
Was relaxed yet professional
Good apart from my IT took 2 weeks to set up, I was thrust upon my supervisor without him having any idea that he was to have an intern. Thankfully he was very good as he had been an intern not too long ago.
A lot, there were training courses, site visits and tours etc. They really helped us get a better grasp of the company.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Very big company and loads of opportunities within the grad scheme so i will be applying for this grad scheme
The Culture
80 other interns were there, most of which stayed in the local halls of residence. It was brilliant , there were nights out, BBQs ,sports sessions and a real good community between the interns.
The Halls were expensive but Derby was pretty cheap
Was good - not amazing
Loads, the interns/grads/apprentice society in RR had loads of events going on : nights out,pub golf, rafting, water sports, football tournaments ,Frisbee sessions etc - was well run
