    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I very much enjoyed the whole of my placement! I felt encouragement to be proactive throughout whilst being given important projects to work on. I had little time without work and never felt 'just the intern', which is what I expected. I would definitely recommend doing an internship like this to gain an indepth insight into a company and the work given to graduates.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The interaction with my team was great, I felt very comfortable throughout with the knowledge that I could ask questions to any one of my team and they would be happy to help me or give me projects. All of my projects helped the validity of my team, and in fact I was told on the first day that the work I was to be given would have been given to any other person on the team, making me feel involved and responsible.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was fantastic. She was very organised and infact had pulled together a list of projects for me before I had arrived. I had regular one -to -one meetings with my manager to update her on my progress, ask any questions, prepare for presentations and get further work. Any questions I had, or anything I felt uncomfortable about I knew I could ask and she would help.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had a number of projects, some a couple of days long, some that lasted the whole 2 months and so I was constantly busy. Towards the end the work was a little more spread out because at this stage I was waiting for updates and responses from other areas of the bank, but I still had other things I could work on.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As I said my task well all very important and will be carried on after I leave, or have helped to make the team more secure, and so the responsibility for me was high. As I was sent out to meet many people across the bank which again held a lot of responsibility.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The interns were given 4 days training at the start of the internship which was very helpful in my understanding of the vast structure of a bank and the importance of every part. My skills developed include communication, problem analysis, computer skills, decision making skills, which can and will all be brought forward to help my degree and future career greatly.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I was in a relevtivly small team, but a well balance one that kept the atmosphere up at all times. At times the atmosphere would be a bit quite and pressured, however overall I have no complaints.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was extremely well organised, from the HR help before and throughout it to my actual teams preparation for me. Education sessions, socials and presentations were all seamlessly put together with detailed information given to us, and if ever we had questions we knew where to ask.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was adequate training, however coming from a mathematical background, I came into the internship with very little knowledge of banking. Maybe some more indepth understanding of banks would have been helpful, however I have learnt a huge amount during the last 9 weeks and that is all down to the companies investment in training.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • We are unaware whether we have a concluding job from our internship yet, however I believe you an intern has highly performed and shows a great ability to work well within a bank with drive and commitment, they may be considered.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The interns had a very good social aspect, meeting every lunchtime to eat, going to UBS organised events and also organising events outside of work individually. This was a part of the internship that I particularly really enjoyed and had the chance to meet a lot people in the same situation as I am in from all different backgrounds.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is an expensive place to go out, as expected, but if you find the hidden hotspots and deals you can make it through a night not spending ridiculously. Do'nt get me wrong though... its not Uni prices!

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Liverpool street has a variety of places to go out

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I did not really look into these, however I know there was a lot of oppurtunities, such as a football team, running team.. etc.
