    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The Work is very interesting but slow at times, but that comes with working for a large company

  • I was given a lot of responsibility but not much direction was given at times

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Manager was very supportive of extra training I wanted to do, and my supervisor was helpful with any questions I had regarding my work.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Not very, I had 3 projects to work on but the work for them didn't take that long so it was a case of working slowly to keep myself busy for the day.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was in charge of organising and doing my own project for the summer as well as working on a supervisor and a colleagues project.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learnt project management and timing skills as well as receiving extra training in MATLAB and Simulink. These will help in future modules like process dynamics and control and in my dissertation.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Every one is very friendly and interesting to talk to. There is a good balance of working and social atmosphere.

  • Very well organised, I had a project set up for me at the start and was briefed on this regularly to observe my progress.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I attended two training courses whilst on placement and visited other department out of interest for the graduate scheme.

  • It is a good place to work and pays well so is very tempting.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We all lived in Liberty Park in Coventry there was about 50 of us with regular nights out and social activities like Laser Quest and trips to London etc.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Coventry was a very cheap night out! And there is a good shopping centre/cinema/gym etc. Liberty Park is £80 a week which is more expensive than usual university accommodation but was much cheaper than living in Leamington Spa.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Coventry has a few good places to go out. Leamington has really nice bars and restaurants.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • If you organised them yourself yes there was plenty to do!
