The Role
I think overall the internship is a truly inspirational experience as the two rotations gives us the opportunity to explore different areas of banking and the lunch learning sessions provided us with a even broader view of the industry in general. I really enjoyed it.
People at RBS are really helpful and supportive of interns. They would sit down with you to give you an introduction of their respective fields or simply just for a chat over coffee. Networking is highly encouraged within the bank and you are given plenty of opportunities to do so.
Throughout my internship, I was given continuous training and coaching. Starting with one week of technical and soft skill training, many additional training sessions are arranged for us as well such as excel training and presentation skill workshop. Besides the formal sessions organised by the bank, during my first rotation at the Corporate Advisory team I was given much help and support from analysts and even VPs on the day to day tasks. During my second rotation at Transaction Services Products (Channels), my line manager specifically trained my presentation skills through a mock session in preparation of the final presentation at the end of the internship. The knowledge I gained about the bank, as well as other transferable skills picked up during the internship are so beneficial for me that I feel really lucky to be given the opportunity.
The internship provides us with the opportunity to manage our time effectively as the tasks can be rather challenging for new joiners. During my time at the Corporate Advisory for example, multi-tasking and prioritisation are the two important skills learned during my 4 weeks there. Yet the amount of work given was never unreasonable as I could feel that my colleagues are aware of us being new to banking and try to be as accommodating as possible.
We are expected to take ownership of our own work and we are generally given the similar amount of responsibility as analysts already in the bank.
I think the internship really trained my communication skills and my ability to manage my time and energy efficiently. These skills are going to help me enormously in my last year of studies.
The Company
Everyone on the desks I've work on supported the interns from day one. I was invited to celebration parties and simple after-work drinks.
I think RBS has arranged the most intern activities amongst its peers in terms of the summer internship. My friends working in other banks all agreed that I have the busiest schedule in terms of activities organised by the company.
Trainings, activities and social events. I think RBS has invested a lot on us as interns and genuinely cared about our well-being.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Car
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare from home
I sincerely hope I would be able to get an offer with RBS.
The Culture
Yes, there are plenty of such activities either organised by the bank or initiated by the fellow interns.
It's central London.
Again, central London.
Plenty of them. Ranging from CSR projects to social events.
