The Role
Love the environment, enjoy the work, like how laid back it is and the lack of hierarchy. Disliked early mornings, seriously early mornings, but it's the price you pay.
Very few people I didn't get on with, however one of the Directors on one of the desks decided early doors that he didn't like me, so didn't really enjoy that desk as much as the other.
Developed a good relationship with the head of one of the desks I was on so lent on him for advice and guidance when I thought I needed it. He was very open and honest and I really appreciated his help. When he went on holiday the others on that desk also helped me with guidance and suggestions, so overall positive.
Went through some periods of having lots to do and some periods of having not much to do, however in the periods of downtime I was able to talk to people to get a more accurate view and understanding of what the job entails on a day to day basis.
In a Sales & Trading internship it is tough to give the interns much real responsibility, as we aren't going to be talking to clients and we are also not FCA approved, so obviously can't do any Trading. As such it is tough to give interns responsibility.
Valuable skills in terms of dealing with people, coming across well, meeting new people and also asking questions about things you don't understand. One of the major skills I learnt was how to deal with sleep deprivation, which is key.
The Company
Very good, laid back, good chat, exciting atmosphere. Also, good to have the Ashes on the TV.
Well organised however a few things marred it, for example hearing about our second rotation destination at 3.20 on Friday when we were expected to be on our new desks at 6.30 on Monday morning.
Lunchtime talks and mini rotations throughout ensured that we gained exposure and time in different areas of the business.
Company Parties/Events
Hedging my bets as haven't found out yet.
The Culture
Better than I expected, but not like we went parrtying every night.
Central London is always expensive, especially so in The City.
Central London offers loads, and there are lots of places in The City willing to take your hard earned money off you
Nothing that I'm aware of.
