The Role
Fantastic learning experience- was given a lot of responsibility and enjoyed interaction with members of staff from all levels of the bank.
I felt that the tasks I was set really were of use to my colleagues and very much valued by them. However, I think it is very desk-dependent as to the extent to which you can contribute productively to the team.
Management were always there to address any issues or questions I had, and were happy to highlight any potential areas of improvement as well as give credit for tasks in which I had delivered to a high standard.
Again, very desk-dependent. There were times when the day would fly by but understandably other times when things were a little bit slower. Fortunately given the friendly and welcoming approach of all members of staff, no matter which desk, I was always able to fill my time by moving round to other desks and broadening my understanding of the markets division.
The desks were very good at finding work for me to do and encourage me to take as much responsibility on as possible. The more responsibility you take on, the more you are going to get out of the internship, and ultimately i's down to you as an individual to go out of your way to show responsibility as opposed to relying purely on tasks that are handed to you.
I have some modules during my 3rd year which are directly related to finance and processes that occur within the wider macroeconomy as a whole, so I feel the knowledge and skills I have developed over the course of this internship will be extremely useful when undertaking these modules.
The Company
Very light-hearted, always looking to engaging in interesting and fun conversations and jokes. I cannot think of a single day when I felt there was a bad atmosphere at any of the desks I sat with.
HR went out of their way to ensure that interns were given a wide range of activities and events to participate in both inside and outside of the office. Similarly, the desks were excellent at organising rotations in such a way that you gained maximum exposure to that product.
Multitude of events, opportunities, training etc. I have been extremely impressed by the bank's investment in me as an intern and it is evident just how much focus they put on our development and getting as much out of the experience as possible.

I would love to have a job at RBS!
The Culture
Some interns were not particularly interested in socialising outside of work but on the whole there was a good core of interns who were always up for engaging in social events outside of the office. As for my colleagues on the desk they were always very welcoming in terms of inviting me out for drinks after work etc. and so really made you feel part of the team.
The internship was in London so socialising was obviously expensive. Fortunately I lived at home and commuted in every day so living expenses were minimal.
Looks of goods bars and clubs n which to socialize after work.
The bank was excellent at arranging opportunities outside of work, particularly through the graduate committee.
