The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed working for ERAC. The atmoshphere in the branch made it no problem to come in to work everyday and the level of skills that were developed over a short period of time brought out the best in me.
ERAC welcomes everyone with open arms, and you soon find your feet in the branch as everyone is willing to help as best as they can, with the branched being filled with friendly and helpful members of staff.
Guidence and support was in abundance. Even when I went through a tough time at one of the branches, the management team were willing to help in any way which would make it easier for me.
Days passed quickly throughout the years placement, and it felt nothing near a year long. With days throwing different and new tasks at you every day, you were constantly kept busy and were learning something new every day.
I was provided with a huge amount of responsibility even from day one, and I was running the show only after being on placement with the company for 6 and a half months. With this responsibility, it actually saw me being promoted within 8 months of starting with the company and a second promotion followed soon after.
The amount of skills that is developed during the placement brings out the best in you and releases your potential. The time management and organisational skills are those which see most improvement and these are skills that would stick with you for life.
The Company
The friendly atmosohere in the office made every day pass quickly, and you always got the opportunity to have a laugh while getting the job done.
The placement was organised and it made it easy for me to keep up with the paperwork which was required for university whilst on placement.
The company invested all they could in me, ensuring I was trained by the best in the area, that I attended training days in the head office and I worked with people who would help me gain my personal best.
National Travel
I have attained a secure job with ERAC following my placement. With being promoted within the first 7 months of placement and gaining a second promotion soon after, I have secured a job and go back for my fourth year of University as a Part Time Assistant Manager- something I never thought attainable at the start of the placement year, and to get to Asisstant Manager level allows me to go back to University knowing the past year hasn't been wasted.
The Culture
With the hours I was working, it never gave me a lot of opportunity to meet with my fellow students as I was the only one from my course that gained a full years placement. However, the atmosphere in the branch allowed plenty of opportunity to socialise with colleagues, even while on the job, and made the work place an enjoyable place to be.
I never do much socialising out with work, so the cost is irrelevant to me. However with owning my own flat in the centre of Aberdeen, the cost of living is something I find quite cheap.
I never went out during work as I am not one for socialising like this.
There probably was plenty of opportunity out there, however I never went out there looking for anything, But if someone was to look for activities to do outside work, they would find plenty of things to do in Aberdeen.
