The Role
The hours are tough (6am - 8pm) and can be quite pressurised at times but the learning experience is highly enjoyable - especially progression with a toguh problem or theoretical area.
Guidance is varied in order to point you in the right direction but make you figure it out for yourself.
Between finding out more about other business areas, desk projects and intern events there is always plenty to do.
I was not given a great deal, but this was due to the desks I was placed on being theoretical (Quant trading and Derivatives trading).
The Company
Despite the summer being quiet there was always a buzz coming from the trading desks when business picked up.
Organisation meant that set work was always there to be done, but there was the freedom to roam and sit with employees not necessarily in your selected business area.
The amount of time employees invest in the interns appears to be one of the UBS internship's unique selling point.
Company Parties/Events
The UBS equities business is expanding and with there appearing to be a rotation to equity, and more activity in Europe especially, it's an expanding business.
The Culture
Drinks are the norm on Friday after work and the interns usually organise something at the weekend - a social set-up really depends on what you put in and organise yourself.
London's an expensive area but the salary for the summer is there to compensate that.
The week is pretty packed but the weekend is yours to get involved in whatever you choose.
