The Role
Once you got used to the hours and the stress level you are able to enjoy it more. There were lots of events for you to talk with your intern class.
Valued but at the same time it was important to remain respectful.
HCM were excellent in supporting us throughout the process. The leaders on the desks were very helpful at providing clarity on where you are suited to best, depending on your skill set.
Extremely busy but in a good way - you were never looking at your watch counting down the mintues. The work load varied depending on the stage of the program - some parts were spent very busy just meeting people all day, other days were spent working on projects and preparing presentations, so it really depended on your desk and what tasks you had been set to do.
Enough to be able to experience the role but there are obviously restrictions around what you are allowed to do.
Really developed my skills and also learnt a huge amount about myself.
The Company
High intensity and extremely exciting. Depending on the news that is released the atmosphere on the trading floor can vary greatly - from stressed to very quiet on bank holidays.
It was difficult to navigate at the start as you had to try and 'find a home' - we were able to meet lots of different teams and were able to chose where we thought we fit best, and weren't given much guidance by HCM. Later on in the program once you had done some work HCM got more involved and provided more guidance as to where you fit best. This was daunting at the start but actually worked out best in the end.
We were given all the help and support we needed throughout the program. We also received lots of training throughout the program which was extremely helpful especially for someone from a non-finance degree.

I would love to work here in the future - we havent had job placements confirmed yet.
The Culture
The intern class usually went out on a Friday and had other events during the week to attend.
London is of course expensive.
Very good. London is of course extremely exciting and a great place to work - with amazing nightlife and lots of things to experience.
The hours in the office arent that long, but they are very tiring and therefore you dont always want to do much else in the evenings outside work except sleep. But on a 10 week program this is to be expected.
