The Role
Goldman Sachs ensures a well rounded internship from organising guest speaker series throughout to developing a strong understanding of the day-to-day tasks the team you are placed with execute. Throughout the 10 weeks you are encouraged to experience GS as a whole by work shadowing different desks, attending the affinity groups to fully understand the culture of the firm.
From day 1 I felt part of the team, this was from being trained daily, having 121’s and being involved with all meetings.
Every week I would have at least 1 catch-up with my manager who ensured that I was given all the opportunities to reach the goals I had set out for myself at the beginning of the internship. The guidance and support was given from both a career and personal level.
As you manage a lot of your own time it is up to you to decide how proactive you want to be by setting up your own work shadowing, meetings and attending sessions to aid your time here.
During my placement I was given more of a project role which would have been completed by an another employee had I not been here. This made the work I did feel meaningful and meant that I could add value in my team.
All of the softer skills that I learnt here I will be taking back with me such as project management, Microsoft technical skills and presentation skills.
The Company
The atmosphere matches the culture of the firm, being in a place where people are always ready to help and answer your questions. Some days the team may be under more pressure but everyone is always working hard and managers will be under control to try and minimize stress.
The structure of my internship was driven by my projects and by milestones that I created at the start. The balance is very healthy from having mixture of intern events organised by HCM and time at your desk.
The firm invests their time in you, if someone isn’t able to train you or have a meeting they will always reschedule.
Very appealing! The 10 weeks gives you a perfect insight as to whether you could see yourself working with them and them with you.
The Culture
We had a very close intern class.
More expensive than student living by far but that was expected.
