About You
I didn't realise work experience could be so fun!
All of the market analysis that I did was used in order to correct forecasts for the next quarter. They were also presented in a team presentation to other Shell employees, all of whom agreed the analysis was useful to optimise the business. This was very rewarding indeed.
There were many talks from various people explaining how to perfect our CVs and how to get into the Shell Graduate Program. These talks provided me with invaluable advice for the future.
I learnt so much about communication, networking, corporate life, the business and even Microsoft Excel! I am now extremely interested in the energy industry.
The Company
Absolutely incredible. Not only were we treated like real employees (we received our own photo IDs, desks, laptops etc.) but there was always something productive to do. Furthermore, there were many insightful and useful talks that provided us with some great advice. We were provided with a full schedule and were allowed to use Microsoft Outlook to structure all of our meetings ourselves. This level independance was a great thing to have.
The staff were always pleasant and friendly and most importantly, willing to answer any and all the questions I had. Not only did I gain a lot of information about the company but also the coroporate world in general.
They provided us with a lot of information that would prove useful for later on. They paid for all expenses. They made sure that we left having truly experienced what working life is like.
I was working within a department, alongside real staff, the entire time. I felt like a real employee for the three weeks I was there!
I was working within a department, alongside real staff, the entire time. I felt like a real employee for the three weeks I was there! I even managed to have lunch with the staff on a few occasions which gave me the opportunity to ask them more about what it is like to work at Shell.
They gave me an insight into this industry through first hand experiences. This has definitely made me interested in the field.
Everything Else
This was not a paid internship. We were given £60 to spend at the canteen for lunch over the three week period. All travel expenses were reimbursed. A lunch out and travel expenses for a day trip to an Oil Refinery were also provided.
I would go as far as to say that I was virtually networking 24/7. I met new people on a daily basis. I then communicated with said people even further through e-mail, IM and teleconferences.
There were no social events for work experience students bar lunches, and general communication with other students. Despite this, I still managed to make a lot of new friends with similar interests.
There are many amenities in the building that employees and work experience students can get invovled with.
100%. I would recommend this to anyone interested in working in the energy industry or interested in finding out more about corporate culture.
