    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my year here. I was able to learn many new skills and gain an insight into industrial research.

  • Immediately i started to work here, i felt like a valued member of the team.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Everyone is easily approachable managers and collagues. Each student has a mentor also so there is support from different departments.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • During the year there was a good balance between labs and office based work. Always something for you to do.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I had my own project to do where i was responsible for setting up the work and reporting the findings

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Everything that i've learnt here will help me a great deal. new skills, technical and others such as presenting will hopefully hold me in good stead

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office and labs were a really friendly and relaxed place to work.

  • Very organised, were my projects were set up prior to my arrival.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The projects i was working on were vital to my team. Internally i was able to attend different training courses but not external ones.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • It was good to work in industry for a year and i really enjoyed it, however i would like to gain some experience in the NHS also. But if i was offered a job in future, it would be hard to refuse.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • With other placement students also we had a good social life. BAT hold many social events throughout the year so there is plenty to do outside daily work

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Accomadation is fairly cheap and the surrounding area isnt expensive.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Plenty of places to go and enjoy.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I was able to play in the BAT 5 aside football league and also a Semi-pro team outside of BAT. The Gym on site is open before and after work, with different exercise classes also.
