About You
Really lucky to experience pretty much the apex of the legal world.
Some of my work went directly to the relevant partner or client, so very.
There was always your buddy and principal on hand to answer any questions. Beyond this, we had at least 1 university alumni and the grad recruitment team to contact. Tasks were well laid out and our vacation scheme introduction pack gave us most everyday information we might need.
Access to all the knowledge database and support facilities from day one meant finding the best answer was easier.
The Company
Very well, the itinerary mapped out the 3 weeks perfectly from day 1.
Fantastic, although perhaps a little busy as many people were away on holidays.
Almost daily lectures and workshops with leaders in their field, giving us a good foundation of skills early on is taken very seriously. It was good to see how the people who picked up the pieces after the financial crisis work.
We were pressured to leave by 6pm, so we wouldn't have experienced the full extent on the hours. On the other hand, the work was trainee level and there was very little we were not allowed to get involved in.
Every department has its own atmosphere, but the overall culture was work hard/play hard (like most City professions to be honest). I had misconceptions of everyone being stuffy and stuck-up, but I was very wrong.
This was the final push I needed to follow the Magic Circle route over any other option.
Everything Else
Although, I was taxed due to having a permanent job, so over spent on my living costs for the 3 weeks.
Open door policy meant we could theoretically approach anyone, also the various events/dinners/socials were quite well attended with partners and associates. We did have an opportunity to impress, but in a relaxed environment.
Great, saw London in a way I would never have otherwise and got to see people in a more relaxed environment.
Plenty of societies for religious groups or LGBT etc. Plenty of sports teams and room to introduce new ones if they didn't exist.
It showed why the Magic Circle still attracts the best in the business. If you have a talent in a certain area, this firm will put it to best use.
