The Role
My team were very friendly and approachable and really helped me during my internship. Found that people were very approachable and willing to take time to answer your questions/ teach you about more technical elements. At times however, it was a little bit of a slog - especially if you were given a fairly large menial task.
Everyone was very approachable and friendly. However, it did take a bit of time to build up working relationships outside of my team.
My line manager was helpful, though busy for a large amount of the time. However, I had a seperate objectives setter - one of the more junior members who was really helpful and attentive.
Some days you can be quite busy and it definitely seems like the work load ramps up over the course of the internship as people get a better idea of your capabilities and get to know you better. At the start it was a bit boring.
Was given some fairly important work that went to clients. At the same time I was given some more menial tasks but you could at least see the value in them and why you were doing them. I didn't get given any pointless work.
I was given a lot of invaluable career advice, both generally and more specifically in what I want to work in which I will definitely be able to take forward. In terms of technical skills, I have found out more than I ever would have been able to from reading books or researching on the internet, and its been more fun than if you had researched it outside.
The Company
Very interative office, never made the day dull. Generally however, a trading floor will have that atmosphere though
Some bits were organised well. However, the review process and general objectives process wasn't the best.
Put on training at the beginning and ran after-work and lunch-time sessions on everything from personal brand to presentation skills etc
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
HSBC has a wealth of oppurtunities - however not sure if I'll be able to take advantage of that - need to wait and see if there is a job offer!
The Culture
Interns generally got on well. However socialising seemed largely amongst your immediate business area.
London is expensive, but I commuted from home so saved on rent
London is London, need I say more
Could go to the gym, that was about it. Was only a 10 week internship though
