The Role
The internship was a great experience, primarily because of the quality of the people. Extremely diligent, hardworking and clever, but also friendly and inclusive. This applies throughout the hierarchy.
Depending on the size of the team and how proactive you are in catching up with other colleagues and people with whom you haven't worked closely with, it will vary. As long as you make sure that you are visible while doing a good job, you will be very highly valued by all of your colleagues.
The support environment is pretty exhaustive, as you are given a buddy, a mentor and other senior representatives as formal points of contact for support throughout the summer.
Very busy, which comes with the industry. You need to be prepared to work hard and be aware of this going into it.
A good level of responsibility, especially as the weeks passed and I became more and more confident with the analytical content.
The skill set that you acquire within investment banking is broad, especially if you start out in M&A. If so, it is basically applicable to any other job that is not too technically specialized.
The Company
Collegiate, friendly while still being very hardworking and diligent.
Very well-organized, mostly because of the professionalism of the Human Capital Management team.
They invest a lot in their employees, more so than what I believe is the case at many other competing firms.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Due to specific language skills and corresponding requirements at the firm, I believe I will be in a good position for future employment. This can be an important factor since e.g. the London office covers the entire EMEA region.
The Culture
Very good intern atmosphere.
As you would expect from living in Central London.
The firm's London office is located close to St. Paul's Cathedral, which is a great location because of the easy access to areas with good nightlife.
Difficult since work takes up most of your time. Again, as long as you are aware of this, it should not come as unexpected.
