About You
This scheme was great fun and tremendously useful.
The work I was given was a very good mix of tasks that were useful for me and for the firm itself. We were made to feel part of the team in our various departments, and this was emphasised by departmental social events. Crucially, I had the chance to work with several different people in each department which made me feel like a part of a the wider firm, rather than just an onlooker.
Help was always at hand from numerous sources. I never felt overwhelmed by the work here.
As a non-law student, the scheme will not help me very much with my degree, however, the skills learned during my time here will be invaluable for my career after university.
The Company
The schedule was very well organised, with a huge variety of lectures, socials, workshops, and desk-time. My only suggestion is that the events were perhaps too densely centred around the middle week, which was when most of us were writing our project! This structure, however, forced us to plan ahead, and gave us a feel for the kind of time constraints we would actually face as a trainee.
Incredibly friendly throughout.
About as much as they possibly could, at least with respect to the plenary sessions: the quality and seniority of the lectures and the speakers was very high.
Although the scheme was incredibly fun, we were aware that we were experiencing the 'trainee-lite' timetable: the hours lengthen and the structured entertainment obviously lessens when a trainee. That said, the contact with trainees themselves gave us a good feel for future life at the firm.
We met a wide range of people, from partners to trainees, and speaking with them gave a good feel for firmwide culture, as did the lectures on Linklaters strategy and values.
My increased understanding of the firm, and how it distinguishes itself from competitors, is very useful for making decisions about my career.
Everything Else
Many - both in the department, from the graduate recruitment panel, from our respective universities etc.
Top-notch.
We were made aware of the sports and other activities that employees participate in, however, most people did not have time to participate in them themselves.
Absolutely.
