The Role
SIG was a great place to work
I was working directly with one of the directors and given real responsibilities
My Role was very independent, I did not have a lot of face-to-face supervision on a daily basis. I had a lot of communication via phone and e-mail.
I had a job to do everyday, my role was analytical and project based therefore there was always something else you could research if you had done your jobs for the day
I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement, I was basically running the project, reporting back to my director and discussing my results
Elements of the project were directly linked to my degree course, hence I was using the theory I learnt at university in real life situations. I also learnt how to use new software and I will be able to use these skills any company.
The Company
As my role was very independent, I did not have a team/department around me. However I got to know some of the employees in different departments in the open plan office and made some nice friends.
I was told what project I was on, what I was aiming for and given all the information on the first day. We broke down elements of the project every week so I knew what I was working on and had a focus on what I need to get done
My director invested a good amount of time with me to ensure I did not get bored
Company Car
National Travel
Working from home
Future prospects with SIG Plc are promising, I will be talking to HR at a later stage to see what they are able to offer me
The Culture
Everyone was really nice at SIG. There were only a few of us and we were based in different offices around the country. It was nice to catch up on review day
The cost of living was reasonable for the area.
Very quiet area, not much of a nightlife, a few pub and bars. However cambridge was a good night out about 20 mins down the road (by car) quite expensive though
Not many. I joined the local gym and made a few friends there, you also get a discount at the gym if as you work for SIG.
