The Role
My internship at J.P. Morgan was an extremely enjoyable experience. My manager took an active role in ensuring I was kept busy and learning, and the firm were really encouraging when it came to meeting people from different divisions.
The projects I was given were relevent, and helpful for the team, and feedback was always provided throughout and upon presentation.
Through being assigned to a senior manager and having a 'buddy', I was given a lot of support and guidance through my internship, and the team really went out of their way to ensure my wellbeing and enjoyment.
I was given weekly projects that required input from areas across the business, giving me the opportunity to network and learn from a wide variety of people. There was always work that could be given to me, but the team ensured I was never given any unreasonable tasks.
The projects I worked on during my internship were both relevent and helpful to the business, and the team trusted me to complete them to a high level.
The internship provided me not only with the opportunity to expand my market knowledge and technical understanding, but importantly was very helpful in progressing myself as a person in terms of interacting with people both junior and senior, keeping disciplined and concentrated at the desk, and ensuring deadlines are always met.
The Company
Really friendly environment, frequent opportunities to meet people from around the business and many networking events were organised for all the employees.
Workshops and interactive sessions were arranged by HR for us from senior people from across the business which was extremely interesting. Projects were discussed between managers to ensure interns would be challenged and would have the opportunity to learn from them
The firm placed a great deal on providing constant feedback, and managers were always happy to explain things to you and give advice in order to help personal development.
Company Parties/Events
The firm is in a strong position and growing very quickly, providing opportunities for employment across a variety of teams. Even if your team didn't have headcount for new hires, they would make a strong effort to realocate you to another team of your interest that was hiring, provided you did a good job.
The Culture
Interns on a daily basis had lunch together, and HR even organised a few external events such as bowling and drinks.
London is pretty expensive, but great city to work in. I lived in a flat in Southwark which is a really cool place to live, and cheaper as it's south of the river.
I was based in Knightsbridge, and aside from a few bars the nightlife wasn't great.
I was involved in intern vs. graduates football, as well as a corporate social responsibility day at a farm! So there was definitley opportunity to get involved outside of work.
