The Role
Great experience, good pay, valuable insight.
People were always extremely helpful and nice.
I had the chance to work with the best people in my department and it was simply fantastic to benefit from their vast experience and real life approach to things.
A very good work load balance. Not too high, not too low.
Enough responsibility to feel the pressure of working around the schedule and deliver things to a specific deadline!
This was probably the best part of the internship as I was able to get a very good grasp of some of the theoretical concepts which I will be studying next year in "Structures" or strengthen existing ones. In addition, I was able to consolidate my CAD skills from university. Furthermore, the chance to be able to talk with older and much more experienced employees offered me massive insight to some of the things I should consider for my career and life.
The Company
Good people, always a joy to come to work.
Tasks were assigned and required to be completed almost weekly, in addition to day to day corresponding departmental assignments.
I attended a few training courses and workshops.
Financial Bonus
If I am to specialize in Civil Engineering at university, Costain is the only company which I would consider for a career.
The Culture
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to meet too many of them as all the interns are spread out throughout the country in other offices/sites.
With Tesco, Sainsbury and Iceland in town, you could get away with really good deals in terms of almost everything regarding living costs.
Maidenhead isn't a particular great place to experience the nightlife, however with Reading, Windsor or London close by, there were many possibilities.
Outside of work, I spent most of my time in the gym and every Wednesday evening the company people invited for a game of footie!
