The Role
The work was really interesting and I had some fantastic opportunities, but I wouldn't say I was leaping out of bed with excitement every morning.
My team and colleagues engaged with me so well. They were always happy to take 15mins to help me out, catch up or just go for coffee. They organised and invited me to drinks after work, and after my first deliverable (which had given them the opportunity to see what I was capable of) they really valued the work I did and made full use of my knowledge and abilities.
Had twice a week catch-up sessions with my line manager who kept an eye on my workload and the actual work itself. There were some periods where guidance was a little lacking, but this only added to the experience as I had to think for myself a bit more and take the initiative.
Workload stayed pretty much perfect. There were periods (one or two days) when I had a lot to do, and multiple deadlines for different projects to meet, but this is inevitable and only happened infrequently.
I wasn't given anything which was too critical to the team - I was doing more research based work, which wasn't vital to the success of the team. This was probably more due to my lack of technical knowledge to get stuck into any of the specific projects.
Social/communications skills vastly improved, as did other soft skills (organisation, teamwork etc.). The technical knowledge I learnt probably won't help me much with my degree studies, other than providing context when looking at the more abstract, theoretical concepts.
The Company
Quite a laidback, relaxed atmosphere. I would like a bit more urgency, energy and buzz, but then there is very little stress, everyone is friendly and there is a great work-life balance (not just among interns but throughout the organisation).
Really well organised with a great support network.
Only real investment was the time of my colleagues - they gave huge amounts of time showing me the ropes, teaching me about what the bank/divisions/teams/they do.

The scheme I'm on involves two summer internships and a likely place on the graduate program at the end. Most people on internships get referalls onto the graduate program, so prospects are likely. In terms of how appealing, I will explore my options elsewhere to see what else I can find, but I would be more than happy working with the organisation.
The Culture
Amazing relationships with other interns - made some real friends and we frequently went for coffee during the day, drinks after work and nights out in the evening.
London = expensive!!
Expensive but great fun, especially because of the great group of interns.
Charity fundraising challenge which was a nice, varied break from work and opportunity to meet different people.
